Though it is set in a Catskill Mountains resort in the early 1960s, Dirty Dancing is a timeless film about teenage rebellion and romance that made stars of its two leading actors, Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey. He plays Johnny, a sexy wrong-side-of-the-tracks dance instructor at the resort, while Grey plays "Baby," the goody-two-shoes daughter of an affluent doctor whose family is visiting the resort for the summer. The two are thrown together secretly when Baby steps in to be Johnny's partner for a ballroom dance competition after his original partner drops out. Romance ensues. When Baby is forbidden by her father to see Johnny again, she does so anyway, and the film ends with an iconic scene of the pair dancing at the resort to the song "(I've Had) The Time of My Life." The 1987 film was as popular for its soundtrack as it was for its story and became a huge hit at the box office. "(I've Had) The Time of My Life," performed by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes, won both the Golden Globe and Academy Award for Best Original Song, and a Grammy Award for best duet. Other songs from the movie that hit the top of the charts were "She's Like the Wind," performed by Swayze and "Hungry Eyes," performed by Eric Carmen.
