An American songwriter, record producer, rapper, and actor, Marshall Bruce Mathers III, is best known as Eminem. He is also referred to as Slim Shady. Eminem was born in Missouri and raised by his mother when his father left the family when he was just a year and a half old. He and his mother moved around between several cities in Missouri and finally settled in the city of Warren, Michigan. Marshall spent his teenage years in the city of Detroit. Champtown, a local rapper was one of Eminem’s first mentors and it was he who got Mather’s his first time in the studio. His first album, Infinite, debut in 1996. The album was released by Web Entertainment, an independent label. After the album was released, Eminem had struggles with both drug and alcohol abuse which led to a suicide attempt. The Slim Shady LP was released in 1997 and published by Web Entertainment. This is the first time that Eminem introduced his alter ego “slim shady.” The album featured references to sexual acts, drug use, violence, and mental instability. Eminem has went on to produce several more albums and has won 13 Grammys in his musical career.
